Got to start somewhere
By my count, this has to be somewhere around my tenth (?) attempt at launching a personal site. I’m REALLY hoping this time ‘round, things stick.
That said, what makes this any different from what’s unfolded before?
A couple of things.
First up, timing. More to the point, the capacity of AI to help drag myself out of the shit I ALWAYS used to find myself in, in those earlier attempts. I mean, no amount of trying to navigate the incomprehensible (to me, at least) ‘helpful’ (helpful? Really?) instructions those platforms provided really helped. Which meant frustration. That ended with me not building the thing I was trying to build.
So, I’m now leaning into AI. Found it to be absolutely invaluable in helping to keep me moving forward. (Finally, something I can ask the stupid questions of, and it just walks me through the solutions.)
And secondly, I’ve finally arrived at the realisation that something’s far better than nothing. Every past version fizzled because I let perfect be the enemy of good. I was afraid of publishing until I felt things were just right - which, in truth, they rarely were. And probably never were going to be.
So this time, I’m keeping it simple. No bells and whistles. No pressure to impress. Just this space for… stuff.
I’ve got no clear plan for how this will unfold. Categories might emerge. Or maybe not. Time will tell.
As far as content goes, there’s already plenty of me scattered across the internet: posts on Twitter/X, the odd Facebook or LinkedIn update, my employer’s website, a local business micro-site, the occasional forum thread.
So maybe this becomes a kind of digital library - one place to bring all that sort of stuff together, under my own roof.
Who knows? I'm happy to just see, and wait and see.
